Peak Paddlesports Standard Competition Deck is a tight, secure and tough spraydeck that is also easy to fit and remove. Used by many elite canoe slalom athletes but also great for beginner to intermediate whitewater kayakers. This new labelling of the Peak Paddlesports Standard Spraydeck divides the standard spray skirt into 2 categories the Competition and the Plastic to better explain the subtle differences between essentially the same skirt. The Competition version (this one) differs from the “Plastic” or standard version in 2 ways: Firstly the competition is only made in smaller cockpit opening sizes- These sizes are specified to fit common white water competition kayaks, and refer to the cockpits of the K1 Slalom Kayak, Slalom Canoes, and Wild Water (Down River) Racing. Secondly the shock cord that holds the skirt on is 9mm diameter (rather than 10mm for the “plastic”). There are probably lots of reasons for the smaller diameter shock cord but two include that these kayaks typically have more secure lip (thinner less rounded) on these kayaks compared to plastic versions (more gently rounded lip) making it unnecessary, as well as these kayaks often have less clearance in the lip (smaller gap) making it difficult to use a larger diameter shock cord.
