Transporting a sit on top kayak can be quite challenging due to the large width and often the heavier weight of these watercraft. The Sit on Top Cart is a unique kayak cart that is universal in application and robust enough to cater to a large range of sit on top kayaks. Features include tapered cones that fit snugly into a broad range of scupper hole sizes while also reducing side-to-side movement of your cart during towing. Furthermore, Sea to Summit have added a variable width axle design with a heavy duty quick release clamp that will fit most recreational sit-on-tops. Install the wheel on the stub axle. Make sure the retainer pin is securely replaced and the ring is flipped down. Repeat for the other axle. Mounting the boat on the cart Flip the craft over and lay it down on the ground in the upside-down position. Locate the drain holes in the hull (scuppers) which are at towards the back end (stern) or middle of the craft. Adjust the width of the cart axle by opening the quick-release clamp at the centre of the axle and sliding the two halves of the axle apart. The tips of the scupper cones of the cart should match the centres of the scuppers. Close the quick-release clamp. Slide the scupper cones into the scuppers. The cones should fit snugly but not excessively tight: if the cones do not fit into the scuppers on your craft, do not force them in – this can damage the hull (if this is the case, the Sit-on-Top Cart will not work for your craft). Rotate the craft carefully until it is right side up. DO NOT rest the weight of the craft on the cart until both wheels of the cart can touch the ground at the same time. If necessary, run an attachment strap around the craft and secure it to the cart. Pulling the boat If the boat is securely mounted it is possible to traverse rough and uneven surfaces. On longer portages, check occasionally to make sure that the securing strap is still firmly attached. Maintenance The cart is essentially maintenance free. If the cart is used in a sandy environment, it is worth hosing down the wheels and the frame of the cart when you return home to remove any grains of sand which might prevent the wheels turning smoothly. Dry the cart before storage, and store it away from direct sunlight. Maximum carrying capacity of 50kg | 110lbs Watercraft should not be stored for extended periods on Sea to Summit carts.
